What stood out for you at Cannes this year?
A highlight was the digital restoration of Luchino Visconti’s seminal 1963 Il Gattopardo, financed by Gucci and the Film Foundation.
What other festival is worth the trip?
The Berlin film festival (berlinale.de), for the way the city embraces its role as host. Around 300,000 attend over 10 days in February. And it still has red-carpet glamour.
What movies are you looking forward to this fall?
Sofia Coppola’s Somewhere, set at L.A.’s Chateau Marmont. Here at MoMA, “Yeonghwai: New Films from Korea, 2008–2010” (Sept. 22–30; moma.org) has movies that are depictions of domestic life. Cinematically, Asia is the hottest region right now. And we are screening II Gattopardo (Oct. 15–21).
