Barbara Lynch’s Menton is one of Boston’s best restaurants—and as the city’s only AAA Five Diamond, Forbes Five-Star and Relais & Châteaux restaurant, it’s also not an everyday affair. But the opening of its interior Gold Bar gives guests a chance to sample Menton’s delights in new, more accessible, ways.
Visitors can sidle up to the bar—topped in Sienna Giallo Marble—and sip a host of handcrafted cocktails by John Gertsen, like an Italian Greyhound (a mix of Punt e Mes, grapefruit, and salt) or a Chartreuse Milk Punch, under the golden lights.
Surrounding chairs and banquettes invite you to sample chef de cuisine Scott Jones’s playful dishes without committing to a long meal. A petite jamòn sandwich comes topped with quail egg and béarnaise, while the fois gras frankfurter is dressed in a cherry and cashew catsup.
In the city’s vibrant Fort Point neighborhood, Lynch and BL Gruppo sought out C & J Katz Studio to create a warm and intimate space. Yet it’s sophisticated enough to serve as pre- or post-stop for a Menton meal—and to warrant a visit all on its own.
