Is ballet entering a new golden age? Two gifted choreographers—the English Christopher Wheeldon and the Russian Alexei Ratmansky—are poised to reinvent the classical tradition for contemporary audiences. This month, Wheeldon takes his troupe Morphoses to premiere a new piece at the opening of the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts (Oct. 15; dallasperformingarts.org). Wheeldon then presents two programs, in London at Sadler’s Wells (Oct. 21–24) and at New York City Center (Oct. 29–Nov. 1; nycitycenter.org). The first includes Boléro, by Ratmansky. In New York, Ratmansky, artist in residence at American Ballet Theatre, is setting Domenico Scarlatti’s Keyboard Sonatas, his second work for the company. It’s on a program with new ballets by rising stars Aszure Barton and Benjamin Millepied at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall (Oct. 7–10).
