Transformation and momentum reign supreme in this dynamic city, where everything from new hotels, restaurants, and art galleries seem to sprout up every week. These are the new projects we're most excited about in Dubai right now.
Describing what to love in Dubai at any given moment feels like an impossible feat—with the city in a constant state of momentum, it's notoriously tough to say. Lately, however, there are a few new particularly notable projects budding there as we speak, from several impressive new hotels, to the construction of an undeniably ambitious eco-dome, that are really worth a pause.
The latest architectural wonder to hit the emirate is the opening of the St. Regis Dubai, which has been designed with the same 18th century, Beaux Arts-style architecture seen in the original St. Regis New York. With 234 rooms and 52 suites, there are also eight restaurants, a spa, and two outdoor swimming pools. The venue is already harboring plenty of attention, thanks to the recent openings of Brasserie Quartier and J&G steakhouse.
Also on the Dubai hotel landscape is the addition of the 16th century Palazzo Versace Dubai, an Italian palace that recently opened its doors in Culture Village along the Dubai Creek. The hotel's claim to fame is that each piece of furniture in the 215-room property has been tailor made by the House of Versace brand itself.
In addition, the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah just announced plans to build an outdoor space that will fan out more than 300 feet into the ocean. The 5,000-ton North Deck was constructed in six separate pieces in Finland's Rauma Shipyard and is currently en route to Dubai via the sea.
For 25 years, the Leila Heller Gallery has helped bridge the gap between Eastern and Western culture through art. Originally located in New York City, the gallery opened its first international location in Dubai's Alserkal Avenue in November 2015. On until February 18th is the widely anticipated exhibition "Zaha Hadid," which pays homage to the internationally renowned architect of the same name.
Set to debut in spring of 2016 is Nikki Beach Resort & Spa Dubai. The 13th Nikki Beach location in the world will be on the Pearl Jumeira, and will feature a five star hotel with 15 villas, as well as the infamous beach club.
It was recently announced that a new bio-dome, known as the Green Planet, which will house 3,000 plants and animals, will open in CityWalk plaza. The dome is expected to be revealed in late February of this year.
