If you’ve been snappin’ necks and cashin’ checks all summer long, then you might be ready for the Catalina Wine Mixer, the biggest helicopter leasing event in the Western Hemisphere (since 1997)—and the ultimate ode to Step Brothers fandom.
The Catalina Wine Mixer was just a plot point in the 2008 cult comedy that starred Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly as stepbrothers with a mercurial relationship, but now it’s becoming a reality.
On Sunday, September 13, the 1st Annual Catalina Wine Mixer will take place at Descanso Beach Club in Avalon on Catalina Island, which has so much space for activities. For just $35 per ticket, stepbrothers, regular brothers, and anyone else is invited can come take part in said activities and get a souvenir wine glass to boot.
If you want to make the event really special (so you can try to get your mom and dad back together) pick up a $100 VIP ticket for access to the private bar, a private wine tasting, and the VIP Hospitality Suite. To really get in the spirit of the event—and to help Derek make his nut—you can even charter a helicopter to fly there.
The Catalina Wine Mixer promises fun, DJs, food, wine, and live bands, headlined by The Dan Band, who are best known for their appearance in The Hangover and a memorable performance of "Total Eclipse of The Heart" in Old School. TMZ reports they will be making their grand entrance by helicopter, which seems reasonable in the situation.
While the event listing didn’t mention it, the Catalina Wine Mixer will undoubtedly also feature an unofficial Step Brothers quote off, so start prepping now.
No word on whether Will Ferrell will show up to sing "Por Ti Volare", but if he doesn’t, guests can always start their own "Sweet Child O’ Mine” sing-along.
