“I may not have an Emmy, but I got me a bar in Melbourne, Australia,”Seinfeld vet Jason Alexander tweeted on Friday. What was he talking about? Would you have guessed a George Costanza-themed watering hole Down Under?
The Sydney Morning Herald reported George’s Bar, named after Alexander’s Seinfeld character, opened on New Year’s Eve flaunting a toastie and cocktail menu pegged to various jokes from the long-running NBC series. The Summer of George, The Hand Model, and Marisa Tomei were some of the concoctions available to patrons.
Co-owner and operator Dave Barrett told the paper, “We came up with the name George’s and worked backwards, concept-themeing it. George Costanza suits a bar in a lot of ways. The humor around George works.”
He continued describing the layout, “We’ll be continually doing things and layering the theme. When you walk in, the two front doors have two George’s quotes — ‘It’s not a lie if you believe it’ and ‘Everyone must like me, I must be liked.’ Theres a whole bunch of autographed photos I’ve bought that are all in transit, that will all get added to as well.”

The bar is already catching the eye of at least one other Costanza fan. “One guy contacted me last night who lives in Melbourne and who is in the middle of eight different George Costanza paintings,” Barrett said. “We are talking about doing a show with him.”
