In July, Miami Beach becomes the international capitol of the swimwear industry: the annual rite of Miami Swim Week blends trade shows, runway glam—such as the memorable Barraca Chic runway presentation at SLS South Beach—and nightclub parties.
Funkshion: Miami Beach Fashion Week (July 15-20) has an enormous tent for swimwear shows on Collins Avenue and 21st St., as well as runways at hotels like The Setai, Miami Beach EDITION, The Setai and Soho Beach House—showing more than 20 in all.
Among the highlights taking place at the SLS South Beach include a Maxim Swimwear Collection Launch on July 18, as well as an emerging designer series presented by Peroni on July 16. Peroni Nastro Azurro, in conjunction with Fashion Group International and Funkshion, will feature such designers as Luis Aponte and Virginia Flores.
As part of SWIMMIAMI (July 17-19), and in an an ongoing partnership, W Hotels Worldwide is working with the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) to present emerging designers. The fashionista brigade will be at the W South Beach for the presentation of such lines as A Peace Treaty by Dana Arbib, Nonoo by Misha Nonoo; Orley by Matthew Orley, Alex Orley, and Samantha Florence.
As with Art Basel Miami Beach, Miami Swim Week unites disparate party themes. Glamour magazine will join forces with The h.wood Group’s pop-up (July 16-18) of Hollywood hipster-rama karaoke lounge “Blind Dragon” at the FDR at Delano space. Expect karaoke suites, music by Mia Moretti & DJ Wade Crescent, and even a dollop of swimwear.
