Kate and Laura Mulleavy may be based in Los Angeles, but the sister duo behind hot indie label Rodarte is showing some love for New York.
The Mulleavy sisters have just released a limited-edition series of scarves designed especially for the Mandarin Oriental, New York, one of our favorite hotels right on Central Park. The inaugural design debuted during New York Fashion Week, but if you're a scarf girl (or boy), mark your calendars: the second design in the series will be ready for launch during February 2016 Fashion Week.
Perhaps finding genius in the obvious, the Rodarte duo was inspired by the property’s views of the Manhattan skyline and Central Park for the initial print. The black-and-white pattern mimics the deep-dark branches you see from the hotel lobby in winter, as well as the twisty-turny Murano glass installation in the hotel's Restaurant Asiate, appropriately named Central Park Trees. A stripe of purple is woven into the edges for a splash of color.
“With our first scarf for Mandarin Oriental, New York, we wanted to create a wearable piece that blended our modern aesthetic with the feeling of excitement that we get each time we return to our favorite hotel in New York and peer out the window onto Central Park from our room for the first time,” says Rodarte’s Laura Mulleavy of the collaboration.
Forget those I Love NY t-shirts—buy a chic scarf instead a memento of your trip to NYC. Take it home along with Kate and Laura's first Mandarin Oriental, New York, collaboration: the Rodarte New York City Guide, a functional map of Manhattan depicting some of the Mulleavys' top spots for hanging out in NYC. The Rodarte New York City Guide is available (for free!) exclusively in the 42 restyled one- and two-bedroom suites of the property. Meanwhile, the scarf is yours for $350—talk about just in time for the holidays.
