The New York City subway system is a magical place—step inside those quick-to-close sliding doors and you never know what you're going to see (or smell). From above (say, a window seat on an airplane), there's no sign of the massive track system that keeps the big city ticking. Tumblr user Anorrian used a photo taken from a flight coming into New York City to throw this travel hub into the spotlight by superimposing a map of colored lines (corresponding to each train route) over a shot of the city.
Anorrian also added in the future lines: Second Avenue Subway, a new PATH line, and the 7-train extension—you know, for all of our wishful thinking. It's not a substition for Massimo Vignelli's extremely well-design MTA map, but it would sure look good hanging on a wall.
