For two weeks every summer New York City's Govenors Island is thrown back into the 1920s, overtaken with fringe-donned picnickers sipping on St. Germain cocktails. The Jazz Age Lawn Party recently celebrated the second weekend of its 10-year anniversary with more than 20,000 people who braved the four-minute ferry ride from Lower Manhattan to Governors Island. The attendees who braved the steamy temperatures (and an impromptu rain storm on the very last day) were rewarded with era-focused music (from a live—and incredibly costumed—band!), dance routines and lessons, shopping at local vendor booths, tintype photography, and an opportunity to show off their '20s-inspired duds.
For those who have never been to the party, the first thing to know is that there is some serious style happening at the Jazz Age Lawn Party. A costume is not required, but from one look around the lawn you will soon see just how many people come dressed for the occasion. From beaded shift dresses and lacy parasols to bold suspenders and even a striped onesie, here are a few ensembles from this year's bash:
