For two weeks every summer New York City's Govenors Island is thrown back into the 1920s, overtaken with fringe-donned picnickers sipping on St. Germain cocktails. The Jazz Age Lawn Party recently celebrated the second weekend of its 10-year anniversary with more than 20,000 people who braved the four-minute ferry ride from Lower Manhattan to Governors Island. The attendees who braved the steamy temperatures (and an impromptu rain storm on the very last day) were rewarded with era-focused music (from a live—and incredibly costumed—band!), dance routines and lessons, shopping at local vendor booths, tintype photography, and an opportunity to show off their '20s-inspired duds.
For those who have never been to the party, the first thing to know is that there is some serious style happening at the Jazz Age Lawn Party. A costume is not required, but from one look around the lawn you will soon see just how many people come dressed for the occasion.
