Why should kids have all the germ-laden fun?
New York City is getting in on the grown-up ball pit action. Following in the footsteps of both Washington, D.C., and London, the Big Apple will be home to JumpIn!’s "interactive art installation” in the city’s SoHo neighborhood from August 21 to September 21.
The project is being run by creative agency Pearlfisher, which believes that the future of work is play. To further the cause of “promoting the transformative power of play,” they set up a giant ball pit at their London office, where it was such a success they decided to ship all 81,000 white balls overseas for some transatlantic merrymaking.
Earlier this year, the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C., used their annual summer art installation as an excuse to turn their hallowed halls into a ball pit. The 10,000-square-foot indoor beach was made of one million plastic balls, and the buzz surrounding the project helped the museum break its summer attendance records.
Now New Yorkers can dive in too. For a $5 suggested donation, adults (or anyone 10 and up) can get in touch with their inner child and relive their favorite ball pit moments (or perhaps a few harrowing Chuck E. Cheese birthday parties) while romping through the installation’s sea of balls.
The ball pit will be open at 455 Broadway, 5th floor, weekdays from August 21–September 21, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Reservations for 30-minute play sessions can be made online.
