As rents continue to skyrocket in Manhattan and Brooklyn, residents and travelers are compelled to look outside New York City’s dominant boroughs for places to live and stay.
Their current solution: Long Island City, where the chic, new Boro Hotel just opened.
Located in Dutch Kills, the 108-room property is minutes from Long Island City’s top destinations, including MoMA’s PS1, the Noguchi Museum, and the forthcoming Smorgasburg Queens (launching July 11).
That’s not to say you’ll want to leave the hotel. Designed by Grzywinski + Pons, a New York City-based architecture firm, Boro features an airy lobby with industrial-style concrete accents that read more glamour than grit, plus a café-bar that serves specialty coffee, wine, cocktails, and complimentary breakfast.
Guestrooms are likewise open and light-filled, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Queens, and many with spacious balconies and terraces. Furnishings are contemporary and low-slung, further adding to a nonchalant, modern vibe that would rival any Downtown Manhattan accommodation.
While the hotel currently is in soft opening phase (doubles from $199 per night, starting July 1), guests should book now for fall, when a ground-floor restaurant and cocktail bar is added to the property.
