A plane ran off the runway at New York’s LaGuardia Airport this morning as it tried to land amid icy conditions. The aircraft, a Delta MD-88 coming from Atlanta, crashed into a fence around 11 a.m., but avoided going into the water that edges LaGuardia’s runway.
"Customers deplaned via aircraft slides and have moved to the terminal on buses,” explained Delta in a statement. “Our priority is ensuring our customers and crew members are safe. Delta will work with all authorities and stakeholders to look into what happened in this incident."
No serious injuries have been reported, and many of the flight’s 125 passengers took to social media to document the incident.
LaGuardia closed immediately after the incident, and the FAA has announced the airport is expected to reopen at 6:59 p.m. EST.
