Imagine a mash-up of the Zagat guides and Google maps. That’s the gastronomy-meets-geography concept behind Mappetite (www.mappetite.com; $12), a new accordion-style, purse-size guide for foodies walking the New York streets. A smart mix of Gotham standbys (Katz’s Delicatessen, Grand Central Oyster Bar) and well-reviewed rookies (Tía Pol, Momofuku) make up the 200 restaurants in the ingeniously conceived folding guide, which is published on colorful cardstock thick enough to survive an errant splash of Nebbiolo. The New York Mappetite will be updated at least once a year, and a San Francisco edition is on the way this summer.
