This is the oldest building standing in Malawi and was built back in 1882 as a home for the managers of the Mandala Trading Company. It’s a quietly grand colonial house, encased in wraparound verandahs and set in lovely gardens. Inside the house is the inviting Mandala Cafe , the eclectic La Galleria art gallery and the Society of Malawi Library & Archive , which contains a vast number of journals, books and photographs, some dating as far back as the 19th century. You could easily while away a spare afternoon perusing old volumes on politics, history, exploration and wildlife.
