Les Ateliers Tësss
Les Ateliers Tësss displays beautiful woven products (you can see the artisans at work).
Train Station
The elegant façade of this train station inspires ideas of romantic train journeys (quickly wiped away once you enter the bleak interior).
IFAN Historical Museum
Contains ancient island maps, photos and artefacts under low, white arcs. Note: when you walk upstairs youre greated by fabulous views of Dakar.
Castel
Climb to the top of the Castel, the southern tip of the island, for great views, and seek out the cluster of tiny arts workshops filled with pieces by local artists.
Plage de NGor
Dakars best beaches are found in the north of the peninsula. Plage de Ngor isnt bad, but better are the beaches on Île de Ngor, reached by pirogue (US$1) from there.
Cathedral
In the south, next to the governors palace you find the Cathedral, an 1828 building with a neoclassical facade that is one of the oldest operating churches in Senegal.
Gouvernance
Theres the Gouvernance and the Chambre de Commerce on either side of Place de lIndépendance, a remarkable space itself because it is huge, wide, lined by grand buildings and symmetrically laid out.

Theres the Gouvernance and the Chambre de Commerce on either side of Place de lIndépendance, a remarkable space itself because it is huge, wide, lined by grand buildings and symmetrically laid out.
Grande Mosquée
The impressive Grande Mosquée built in 1964, sits in the heart of Médina, a lively neighbourhood where tiny tailor shops fight for space with improvised market stalls, and creative ideas brew between street cafés and makeshift football grounds.
IFAN Museum
This heritage, art and culture museum contains photos of famous Saint-Louis personalities, an informative history section (in French) and exhibits on local culture and topography ncluding antique dolls and exhibits on local flora and fauna.
Grand Mosque
The Maghreb-style building of the Grand Mosque in the north was constructed in 1847 on order of the colonial administration to appease the growing Muslim population. The oddity of an attached clock tower betrays the designers religious affiliation.
Guet NDar
On the Langue de Barbarie, Guet NDar is a fantastically busy fishing town worth checking out to observe local culture. Come here to watch dozens of pirogues being launched in the morning, and fish being brought in, gutted and smoked on the shore in the afternoon.
