A group of local landowners, descendants of the 1820 Settlers, combined their properties to create Amakhala, 75 sq km of rolling hills, bushveld and savannah. Named after the Xhosa for aloes, Amakhala, roughly 70km from PE and east of Addo, offers a morning wildlife drive (R750 including lunch) and an afternoon safari (R980) including a cruise on the Bushman's River.
Amakhala also offers conservation activities and volunteering opportunities. There are 11 different accommodation options, including the five-star Bukela, Bush and Hlosi lodges, Woodbury Tented Camp and Quatermain's 1920s-style safari camp. All-inclusive singles start at R3510, doubles at R5400.
