The dry northern side of the Soutpansberg provides a scenic backdrop, and a contrast to the lush Venda landscape, in this nature reserve at the Nwanedi Dam. The vegetation here is mainly mopane (mopani) and mixed woodland and the major walk is to the scenic Tshihovhohovho Falls. You can hire canoes in the reserve for R70.
The reserve has campsites, three-person rondavels and a restaurant.
You can reach the Nwanedi reserve from Thohoyandou, 76km southeast, using the route to Sagole and Mutale. However, it’s simpler to get there via Rte 525; from the turn-off to the park, about 25km northeast of Tshipise, it’s 12km to the reserve’s information centre.
