To really delve into the history of the region, ask at the museum tourist office about visiting the more than 300 Khoe-San rock art sites in caves around Ladybrand – guides can be arranged. While here, pick up a permit to visit Modderpoort Cave Church (c 1869). Nestled under a huge boulder in scenic surroundings about 12km from Ladybrand, it is one of the quaintest churches around.
