To the north of Fort Beaufort is Mpofu Nature Reserve , where you are likely to see mpofu (eland, a large antelope), as well as zebras. The grassland and valley bushveld make the region ideal for viewing wildlife. The 42km, two-day Katberg Trail begins here and ends at the Katberg Forest Station, just below the Katberg Pass. Permits (R160) are available at the Forestry Office .
