A small circular plaque in the traffic island on Spin St marks the location of the Slave Tree under which slaves were sold until emancipation in 1834. During World Design Capital year this spot became more prominent as the location of an official art project (www.wdccapetown2014.com/projects/project/377): the temporary sculpture may still be in place when you pass by.
