Halfway between Calvinia and the N7, detour along Nieuwoudtville’s main street, which turns into red dirt at the far end of the village. There are some grand sandstone buildings, including the neo-gothic church (1907). When Calvinia fills up during the flower season, Nieuwoudtville is an alternative base with a few guesthouses.
