This tiny museum contains Mkwawa’s skull, personal effects, a python-skin drum and several other relics. The admission price includes a historical explanation by the caretaker, who also appreciates a tip. However, unless you are very interested in Chief Mkwawa or Tanzanian history, or eligible for the steeply discounted resident rates, it's difficult to recommend this dusty museum at its current price.
It's also possible to arrange with the caretaker to visit other nearby historical sites, including a cemetery with the graves of some of Mkwawa’s 62 wives, and the site of part of Kalenga’s old defensive wall (the ruins themselves are now nonexistent).
