About 60km southwest of Srimangal, Satchari National Park is also part of the Nishorgo Network and has the same set-up as Lowacherra, but is much less visited. Another superb slab of tropical forest, Satchari is also home to a small population of hoolock gibbons as well as fishing cats, Phayre’s langur, jungle fowl, pygmy woodpeckers and oriental pied hornbills.
Getting here without your own transport is a bit of a mission, but doable. Take a bus from Srimangal to the crossroads junction known as Sha-ista Ganj (Tk 35, 35 minutes, from 9am). Then take a bus to Sunarghat (Tk 10, 20 minutes) from where you can pick up a shared jeep to Satchari (Tk 15, 25 minutes). Don’t leave it too late coming back. Buses in Sunarghat start to thin out at around 5pm, although buses pass through Sha-ista Ganj all evening.
