Lingering Garden
Lingering Garden is located outside Changmen Gate in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. Originally a private residence established by Xu Taishi during the Ming Dynasty, it is now one of the four most famous gardens in China and visited by many. In 1997, the garden was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site along with a number of other classical Chinese gardens in Suzhou.
Covering more than 23,000 square-meters, the garden is divided into four sections – the center, east, west, and north. These four areas are connected by a 700-meter pathway, the walls of which feature ornate calligraphy that has been carved out from the stone.
The Lingering Garden makes fantastic use of the space available, with a harmonious layout of gardens, rockeries, temples, halls, bridges, and ponds. The section at the back of the garden is particularly impressive, with its spectacular bonsai trees and rockeries.
