White Water Terraces (Baishuitai)
One of the most popular day trips from Shangri-La is to the unusual limestone formations known as the White Water Terraces (Baishuitai). Tucked in the foothills of the Haba Snow Mountains the limestone deposit plateau was formed over hundreds of thousands of years as calcium carbonate in the spring water gradually deposited into a series of white terraced pools.
The surface of the terraces appear slippery, but in this case, appearances are misleading. Visitors can peel off their shoes and walk barefoot on the terraced pools.
Practical Info
The White Water Terraces are located 67 miles (108 kilometers) southeast of Shangri-La. Bita Lake is nearby, making it convenient to combine visits.
