If you plan on eating at Wordo Kitchen (or even if you don't) don't miss heading upstairs to this fascinating and totally unexpected private museum. English speaker Kelsang does a great job of explaining the various exhibits, from the original iron links from a Tangtong Gyelpo bridge to the old English pressure cooker carried by porters over the Himalayas from Calcutta.
Look out for the Tibetan coins cut in half to provide change and the ornate saddle deconstructed during the Cultural Revolution to protects its owners. Travellers will appreciate the ancient Tibetan backpack.
Our favourites are the beauty implements designed to hang from a nomad woman's chuba (including an ear scraper and eyebrow plucker), and the karmic-related dice games that are a hit with local monks. The owner knows his stuff; he was a monk in Tashilhunpo Monastery for eight years.
