This lovely kora climbs up to around 3900m and probably should not be attempted until you’ve had four or five days to acclimatise in Lhasa. The path passes several rock paintings, climbs up past a high wall used to hang a giant thangka during the Shötun festival, peaks at a valley of prayer flags, and then descends to the east via an encased Drölma (Tara) statue and several more rock carvings. There are excellent views along the way.
The walk takes about an hour at a leisurely pace (it is possible to do it more quickly at hiking speed). Look for the path that continues uphill from the turn-off to the Ganden Palace.
