This enchanting walled village is, for some, the highlight of a trip to this part of Shānxī. There's no entrance fee and no tourist nonsense, just the genuine charm of a still-inhabited Ming-dynasty settlement. It's best simply to wander the streets aimlessly, but don't miss Tāngdì Miào (汤帝庙), a 600-year-old Taoist temple and the village's oldest building. It's also worth poking your nose inside the former courtyard residence of Minister Chen's grandfather at 1 Jingyang Beilu (景阳北路1号). Guōyù is a 10-minute walk down the hill from the castle. The bus will drop you off here if you ask.
