The ancient ‘stone city’ of Chóngwǔ has one of the best-preserved city walls in China. The granite walls date back to 1387, stretch over 2.5km and average 7m in height. Scattered around the walls are 1304 battlements and four gates into the city.
The town wall was built by the Ming government as a frontline defence against marauding Japanese pirates, and it has survived the past 600 years remarkably well. You can also walk along the top of the wall at some points. The ticket includes admission to the adjacent Chóngwǔ Stone Arts Expo Park.
