This enormous art gallery took more than four years to build, and was just about to open its doors to the public at the time of research. The intention is for this to become the capital's primary location for exhibiting contemporary Chinese oil paintings. Sadly, the building itself is no oil painting: while attempts have been made to include traditional design into its architecture, its sheer vastness weighs heavily on its small-scale hútòng surrounds.
