Located halfway between the new and old cities, this cavernous, well-mounted museum contains an extensive collection of rock art, Silk Road–era pottery and ancient Korans as well as the requisite hall of communist propaganda and Mao fun facts. It’s a good starting point if you want to learn something of Hui culture. Bus 102 from the southern bus terminal (南门汽车站, nánmén qìchēzhàn) passes nearby.
