Windsurfers hit St. Stephen's Beach, bar-hoppers visit the waterfront bars, and sightseers visit Tin Hau Temple. Most visitors, however, come to Stanley to haggle for bargains at the legendary Stanley Market. Maybe a little touristy, if you are indeed a tourist, you will find everything imaginable to buy for all your relatives back home.
The open-air market is crammed with cut-price clothing, souvenirs, silks, crafts, art, Chinese costume jewelry and bric-a-brac. Head to the market with the intent to bargain hard, and then relax afterwards with a good lunch at any of the many restaurants in the area.
Stanley is on the south coast of Hong Kong Island. Double-decker buses leave from the Central bus terminal on the island. It’s a scenic 40-minute trip, so grab a seat upstairs at the front.
