With no cars, fewer people, old-fashioned buildings, excellent walks and pretty decent beaches, Lamma Island offers welcome respite from Hong Kong’s bustle.
Ride the ferry over from Hong Kong for a tranquil day of walking, sightseeing and eating. You could amble along the 90-minute trail between Lamma’s main settlements, Yung Shue Wan and Sok Kwu Wan, then settle in for excellent seafood at a local restaurant.
Along the way you might see traditional fishermen, their Tin Hau temples, bicycling locals and plenty of expats.
Lamma Island is one of Hong Kong’s outlying islands. Ferries leave from Central on Hong Kong Island, arriving at both Yung Shue Wan and Sok Kwu Wan. The ferry trip takes around half an hour.
