Within the former 1814 Town Hall building, this interactive museum introduces the city’s heritage through a lively collection of working models. It’s well designed, though historically selective, and many foreigners will struggle to appreciate fully the detailed sections on Bengali popular culture. You’ll be accompanied by a guide, which makes it awkward to ‘escape’ quickly. Directly east, the vast building vaguely resembling the US White House is the 1799 Raj Bhavan , now the official residence of the West Bengal governor.
