About 200m up the road from Kangra Fort entrance is the well-displayed Maharaja Sansar Chand Museum, whose ornate palanquins, peacock-feather fans and pashmina fly-whisks give a fine insight into the lifestyle of the erstwhile Kangra royal family – some of whose early members, a history panel tells us, fought against the Pandavas of the Mahabharata. The museum also has nice Kangra School miniatures and evocative before-and-after photos from the 1905 Kangra earthquake.
