The major choke point on the Srinagar–Kargil road, this pass climbs via two parallel ladders of hairpins that are prey to closures of hours or days during rock falls. The pass closes altogether from November to April depending on snow. Views are magnificent if you aren't too busy biting your nails passing turcks on the narrow unpaved ledges. If it seems bad now, be encouraged to know that the road used to be far narrower... and the traffic still got through somehow.
