The former home of colonial reformer and naturalist Allan Octavian Hume (1829–1912), who founded the Indian National Congress in 1885 and is considered the father of Indian ornithology. Rothney Castle housed the world's largest collection of stuffed Asiatic birds until Hume donated it to the British Museum in 1884.
