Thotlakonda was a Buddhist monastery near the coast north of Vizag that hosted up to 150 monks at a time, with the help of massive rainwater tanks. It flourished from the 2nd century BC to the 2nd century AD, and its scenic hilltop site, with sea views, merits visiting for those interested in Buddhism or archaeology.
