Baga Beach
Baga Beach in northern Goa was at the center of the state’s tourism boom during the hippie heydays of the 1960s and 70s. It was here, along with the Calangute and Anjuna Beaches, that the world’s flower children descended en masse, selling the very clothes off their backs to extend their stay on the idyllic beach.
While the bohemian subculture has moved on to more remote beaches, Baga Beach has become one of the most popular beach resort areas in the country and the go-to spot for a rowdy night of dancing and revelry. The area’s infamous Tito’s Nightclub has played host to the Beatles, Kate Moss, Matt Damon and Bollywood superstars Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai.
For visitors who’ve had their fill of lying on the beach, Baga offers parasailing, wake boarding, wind and kite surfing, and jet skiing as well as island hopping and dolphin spotting excursions. If you’d like to enjoy the easy-going vibe of the beach without the sometimes overwhelming crowds, avoid visiting during December and January, when tourism to the area is at its peak.
