If you need an antidote to the busy towns in South Bali, Nusa Lembongan Island is the perfect cure. This unspoilt tropical island just off Bali’s south eastern coast has white sand beaches and clear, aquamarine water ideal for diving, snorkelling and surfing.
Tourism came late to Nusa Lembongan and while there is a good range of accommodation to suit all budgets, the majority of its beaches are unspoiled by development.
Jungut Batu in the northwest is the main beach with the most hotels and eateries. Other beaches include the lovely sheltered Mushroom Bay in the southwest and further south, the lesser-known beaches, Dream Beach and Sunset Beach.
Most of the locals live in Lembongan Village in the island’s southern interior, and make a living from farming seaweed, which is exported for use in products such as ice cream, cheese and cosmetics.
