Jimbaran Bay
Due to the bright, fine sand and unforgettable sunsets, Jimbaran Bay has often been called the most beautiful beach in Bali. It’s no surprise that the area now sports several world class hotels, many high-end villas and a couple budget accommodations in between. Since the water is astonishingly calm, the surf less strong and the difference between low and high tide less noticeable, the bay is frequented by many families with children and is considered to be especially great for swimming. In Jimbaran Bay, the pace is slow and whole days can go by while doing nothing but relaxing, floating in the water and chewing on corn cobs and ice cream. The area is also characterized by the numerous cafés and bars and especially its seafood restaurants. Many of these local restaurants offer freshly caught and grilled fish right on the beach and are an especially popular spot for people vacationing all over southern Bali to sit down and enjoy a romantic sunset while waiting for dinner.
In harmony with the mostly luxury accommodations for the tourists lives the small fishing village of Jimbaran, which is located right at the neck of Bukit Peninsula. Unlike Kuta or Legian and despite the proximity to Bali’s international airport and the capital Denpasar, Jimbaran has preserved most of its original Balinese charm. Every morning, visitors can watch the fish being brought into to the traditional fish market and Jimbaran Town itself offers a labyrinth of small alleys for explorative strolls, where more small produce markets and little local stores wait to be discovered.
Practical Info
Jimbaran Bay is located between Kuta and the Bukit Peninsula and can be reached in about 10-15 minutes from the international airport and 20 minutes from Legian and Seminyak. It’s easiest to catch a taxi there, but make sure you take the Bluebird Taxis, as they are metered and reliable.
