Pura Candidasa
Candidasas temple is on the hillside across from the lagoon at the eastern end of the village strip. It has twin temples devoted to the male-female gods Shiva and Hariti.

Named for the Basque missionary who visited Maluku in the 16th century, Francis Xavier Cathedral has a facade crusted with saint statues and glimmering steeples.

Danau Nyadeng
This vivid turquoise spring full of fish at the base of the limestone mountains begs you to dive in. Best enjoyed after the short but gruelling hike to Puncak Ketepu .

Blue Lagoon Beach
On the far side of Padangbais eastern headland is the small, light-sand Blue Lagoon Beach, an idyllic place with a couple of cafes and gentle, family-friendly surf.

Benteng Otanaha
On the outskirts of Gorontalo this ruined Portuguese fort is on a hill overlooking Danau Limboto. The ruined remains include stone battlements and fortifications.

Pantai Nirwana
Eleven kilometres southwest of Bau Bau, the nearest white-sand beach is the attractively palm-lined Pantai Nirwana, though there is a certain amount of rubbish around.

Pura Ulun Siwi
Across from the morning market, this ebony-hued temple from the 18th century is a snoozy place until it explodes with life, offerings, incense and more on a holy day.

Balangan Beach
A long, low strand at the base of rocky cliffs. Its covered with palm trees and fronted by a ribbon of near-white sand, picturesquely dotted with sun umbrellas.

Jam Gadang
Built in the 1920s to house the clock, a gift from the Dutch queen, Jam Gadang is the town’s focal point. Independence in 1945 saw the retrofit of a Minangkabau roof.
