Tokyo’s most notorious red-light district, which covers several blocks north of Yasukuni-dōri, was famously named for a kabuki theatre that was never built. Instead you’ll find an urban theatre of a different sort playing out in the neighbourhood’s soaplands (bathhouses just shy of antiprostitution laws), peep shows, cabarets, love hotels and fetish bars. It's generally safe to walk through, though men and women both may attract unwanted attention – best not to go alone.
