If you can pry yourself away from the beaches for a moment, the Miyako Traditional Arts & Crafts Centre in Hirara has a 2nd-floor workshop where traditional minsā weaving is taught. It's up a small alley off Ichiba-dōri across from the Miyako Dai-ichi Hotel (宮古第一ホテル) – listen for the clack of wooden looms.
