About 5km northeast of Muang Saen, Wat Phu Khao Kaew was built on the site of some Khmer ruins. It is believed to be home to a naga, though the entrance to its lair is covered. Look for some boulders leading to a path up to the temple on the eastern side of the hill. You'll have a much easier time finding it with a guide, or take a motorcycle taxi (about 70,000K return from Muang Khong).
