The huge open square where Malaysian independence was declared in 1957 is ringed by heritage buildings, such as the magnificent Sultan Abdul Samad Building and St Mary's Anglican Cathederal , both designed by AC Norman. There's also an enormous flagpole and fluttering Malaysian flag. In the British era, the square was used as a cricket pitch and called the Padang ('field').
Drop by the KL City Gallery to sign up for one of the free heritage walks around the square.
