This mildly diverting museum is worth a visit to learn a little about the megalith culture of Negeri Sembilan and to see the two gorgeous wood structures in the outside complex. The Ampang Tinggi Palace (1870) and the Rumah Negeri Sembilan , both transported and reconstructed here from elsewhere in the state, are superb examples of Minangkabau architecture and are sure to whet your appetite to see more around the state.
Both structures can be entered via short ladders, which you should do if only to understand the genius of traditional stilt housing with respect to ventilation. The Ampang Tinggi Palace also has beautifully carved foliage panels on the outer walls. At the far end of the Rumah Negeri Sembilan, which has the hallmark curved roof (like buffalo horns) of Minangkabau houses, check out the pretty etching of a traditional local mosque with a tiered pyramidal roof.
The park is 3km west of the city centre so if you don’t have your own vehicle drop in on the way to Sri Menanti with your taxi.
