The Port Dickson area’s highlight is the 80-hectare Cape Rachado Forest Reserve. This jungle of towering lowland trees has secluded beaches that are ideal turtle laying grounds and is a stopover for over 300,000 migratory birds every year. A simple network of trails run off the main path. Bring lots of water.
The reserve is 2km down a turnoff from the main road through PD. You can park at the Ilham Resort and then hike through the forest reserve for another kilometre to the Tanjung Tuan lighthouse (Rumah Api). The lighthouse, which was first built in 1528 by the Portuguese and is the oldest in Malaysia, isn’t open to the public. You can, however, walk around to the front of it for great views and on a clear day see Sumatra, 38km away across Selat Melaka.
