The entrance to the reserve is about 500m outside Kuala Sepetang. From here, a raised wooden walkway winds through a small section of the reserve. Smooth otters, leopard cats and macaques all inhabit this landscape, though you’re unlikely to see much more than the odd bird and scampering lizard. If travelling here by bus from Taiping, ask the driver to let you off when you see the sign on your right reading ‘Pejabat Hutan Kecil Paya Laut’.
If you wish to stay, there is very basic accommodation in the form of A-frame huts perched on stilts at the water’s edge, which sleep between four and eight people. To pitch your own tent, enquire at the information centre as space is limited.
